Camilo Villegas, the stylish Columbian golfer known for his “spiderman” green-reading technique, led wire-to-wire at the BMW Championship and got his first win on the PGA Tour.
The pivotal hole for Camilo in the final round came on the par-4 12th hole, where he salvaged a par after two key short game shots. After hitting his approach into a greenside bunker, Camilo blasted out to 12 feet and then sank the putt. This 12-foot putt, which allowed him to keep his lead, was one of 13 putts that he made over 10 feet in the tournament, the most by any player. He then sunk a 36’ birdie putt on the 14th hole, showing why he led the field in putting all week.
With the win, Camilo gave a big boost to Vijay Singh; as long as Vijay completes all four rounds at the Tour Championship in a few weeks, he has mathematically secured the FedEx Cup.Congratulations Camilo!
